DANTE CLASSICS COVER

Back in 1989 First Comics wanted to do an adaptation of Dante's Inferno for their Classic's Illustrated line of comics.
I did this Joseph Cornell inspired composition for the cover. Based on the proportions of this image, the art director could not fit the Classics logo into the company's uniform cover design and asked me to use bleach and adjust the painted image to fit the cropping they desired. I refused to do so and as luck would have it, First Comics went under soon after.
I never got to finish the adaptation and I'm quite sure it was a blessing in disguise. I've gotten to know more about the source material, and today's computer technology can easily adjust any image to the desired size without harming the original art.

UPDATE: Here is the cover today with some slight modifications done with the computer.

Dante Study One
